Maricopa police have given other law enforcement agencies the description of a vehicle that did not pull over for an officer on State Route 347 Friday afternoon.

Maricopa Police Department spokesman Ricky Alvarado said an officer believed the vehicle might have been linked to a shoplifting Friday at the Walmart on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

Store employees told police the suspected shoplifters were two men in their 30s, Alvarado said. They left the store in a newer model silver Chevy pickup truck and headed west on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

A Maricopa police officer spotted a vehicle that matched the description in the area of State Route 347 and Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

The truck was heading south on State Route 347, he said. The officer attempted to pull the vehicle over at around Edwards Avenue, but the truck failed to yield. The officer continued to follow the truck until around Alterra Parkway before letting the vehicle go.

“It’s not worth putting the community at risk,” Alvarado said of the officer’s decision not to continue tailing the truck.

Alvarado said police are not positive it was the same vehicle linked to the shoplifting incident.

The department has given the plate number and description of the vehicle to other law enforcement agencies.
