The Maricopa High School Rams have been on a whirlwind tour since winning the Arizona Interscholastic Association Division II state championship. They were honored by the city council and school board and feted by the Ak-Chin Indian Community Tribal Council. It continues this weekend as they appear at the Salsa Festival.

Being formally and publically honored for their history-making feat is just part of it, however. The girls will also be signing and selling posters celebrating their achievement.

The poster, created by InMaricopa.com and sponsored by ACE Hardware, Outside the Box Marketing, UltraStar Multi-tainment Center and the Ak-Chin Indian Community, will be used as a fundraiser for the girls basketball program.

The price is $10 each. Money raised through the sale of the posters will go into the Maricopa High School girls basketball club account, according to head coach Kati Burrows.

She said the first item on the agenda is defraying the cost of championship rings, which cost more than $200 each. Then the team could use new travel sweats and possibly uniforms. Burrows said she would also like to have a banner honoring the team supporters, who chipped in funds to get fans to the state games.

“Winning a state championship is a really big deal,” said Scott Bartle, publisher of InMaricopa. “We’re happy to help commemorate this incredible accomplishment with a poster the team, their fellow Maricopa Rams and all of Maricopa can be proud of. Knowing it will help the girls get well-deserved championship rings and equipment the program needs makes it even more gratifying.”

Besides at the team booth at the Salsa Festival, the commemorative posters will be on sale at the high school, ACE Hardware and InMaricopa.

Order forms for game tickets are due April 3.
