PR proposal, teacher dismissal top school board’s Tuesday agenda

Maricopa Unified School District’s governing board will meet Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. at the district office administration building, 44150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Hwy.

In addition to approving vouchers, donations and personnel changes, board members will hear an update on Saddleback Elementary School from its principal, Jamye Amick.

Board members will be asked to approve travel funding from the M&O budget for board member Carrie Vargas to attend the National School Board Association Federal Relations Network Conference in Washington, D.C. from Feb. 6-8. The state school board association will provide registration fees.

A budget revision to be sent to the Arizona Department of Education will be presented by Business Director Aron Rausch.

Additionally, board members will hear and discuss the final reading of policy on board member conflict of interest and bidding purchases and procedures.

A proposal to hire a vendor for district public relations, advertising and assistance with crisis communication will be presented for board approval.

The board will present a statement of charges in open session in regard to district teacher Debra Wager. Board members will discuss the possibilities of an administrative leave of absence, a dismissal hearing or acceptance of Wager’s resignation, if offered. An executive session for the board to review the statement of charges is on the agenda.
