Corn stands under a hot sun on the east side of Maricopa.

This week’s temperatures in Maricopa will grow progressively warmer, and an excessive heat watch will be in place June 17-20.

According to the National Weather Service, today will top out near 100 degrees. The overnight low will be 67 with only light breezes.

Tuesday is forecast to be sunny with a high near 101. The overnight low will be around 69.

Wednesday, temperatures on another sunny day will climb to around 104. The night’s low will be around 70.

Thursday, expect sunny skies and a high near 103. The nighttime low will be around 73.

Friday is forecast to be sunny with a night near 106, triggering the excessive –heat watch. (A watch turns into a warning when temperatures exceed 108.) Friday’s nighttime low will be around 76.

The rest of the weekend is expected to be extremely hot at 110-115 degrees.
