The City of Maricopa Parks, Recreation and Library Committee selected their official chair during a regularly scheduled meeting on January 11, 2005. The seven-member committee consisting of Maricopa residents David Aviles, Scott Bartle, Aime Boekhout, Dan Conlon, Dawn Madden, Mary Lou Smith and Craig Younger unanimously selected Scott Bartle to serve as the chairman of the group for the 2005 calendar year. The motion passed 6-0 with Bartle abstaining.

“I am flattered for being nominated and honored for being elected,” Bartle commented. “It is great to work hand-in-hand with Marty McDonald to help further his vision of ‘creating community through people, parks and programs.’ However, my contributions will be no greater than the six other members of our great committee.”

The original nomination was submitted by committee member Craig Younger who serves as a Public Information Officer for the City of Chandler Community Services Department. “We’ve been working on some exciting projects for Maricopa since the committee was formed,” Younger stated. “Throughout the process I’ve been very impressed with Scott’s organizational skills and his commitment to the best interests of the community.”

Bartle publishes www.inmaricopa.com, a community-based web site providing daily news and information for the Maricopa area. The Indiana University graduate also directs the United States Swim School Association out of his Maricopa office.

“Scott is an excellent resource and a great team player,” said PRL Director Martin McDonald. “The committee itself is full of dynamic individuals with wonderful ideas. The group has quickly developed a powerful chemistry and 2005 should be a major success for the Parks, Recreation and Libraries Department.”
