Promoter and restaurant team to help Maricopa family

The birth of a child is supposed to be a magical time, a celebration of life and blessings. However, for one Maricopa family the blessing has turned to hardship.

Orlando Gallegos, 20, and his wife Sonjia Gallegos, 22, gave birth to twin baby girls Marisella and Gabriella in September.

Marisella was born without complications and went home with her family, but Gabriella was born with obstructed bowels and has had to undergo two surgeries to repair the problem.

“She seems to be doing better, but the doctors still won’t let her come home,” said Sonjia. “It is tough having to see my baby in the hospital.”

The child is in the Intensive Care Ward at the Banner Desert Hospital in Mesa.

To make matters worse the family’s car has broken down, the couple can’t find work and they are trying to pull off a Christmas for their two other children.

“Things are tough right now,” Orlando said. “It is difficult to find a ride to the hospital to see our baby girl.”

Help may be on the way.

Maricopa resident and entertainment promoter Daniel Agloro has organized a night of entertainment to raise money for the struggling family.

“I heard about their story and just felt the need to help out,” he said.

The event is being hosted Dec. 16 at The New HQ Restaurant and Lounge, 19640 N. Maricopa Road, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The show will kickoff with several 30-minute-long comedic performances followed by music from the area’s hottest R and B and hip-hop artists.

“We are going to have something for everyone. It’s going to be a real fun event,” Agloro said.

The event is free to attend, but there will be donation jars set up around the lounge. “We are not going to be taking donations at the door, just asking people to give what the can as they enjoy this event,” Agloro said. “Hopefully the event will put people in a good mood and make them a little more giving.”

In addition to the entertainment, Agloro said there would be several raffles at the event for donated items.

“I encourage everyone to come out and support this cause,” he added.

For those who wish to help that cannot make the event, donations can be dropped off at Headquarters from 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. between now and the day of the event.
