Reopening of Harrah’s bingo hall delayed

Today’s anticipated reopening of the bingo hall at Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino and Resort following a fire on Sunday has been pushed back until Friday.

“The facility is still in the process of being cleaned,” spokeswoman Holly O’Brien said today.

A fire which started about 3 p.m. Sunday afternoon forced the evacuation of 205 employees and guests. A bad fuse in the air-conditioning unit appeared to be to blame (see “Harrah’s Ak-Chin Casino strives to reopen its bingo hall following fire”).

Initially, Harrah’s representatives had hoped to reopen by today based on the minimal amount of physical damage suffered.

“There was some water damage to the carpet and the walls,” O’Brien said Tuesday. “Right now, we are airing it out and the local authorities along with our risk safety manager will be reassessing the situation tomorrow.”

The main cage is handling return of personal belongings left behind during the evacuation until 9 p.m. tonight and between 10 a.m. and 9 p.m. Thursday.
