Maricopa Christian Academy had a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday morning to mark the opening of the new school at the First Baptist Church of Maricopa.

Registration is ongoing for classes that begin Aug. 16 at the church at 18705 N. John Wayne Pkwy.

The academy is led by Headmaster Tim Ihms, who has 42 years of teaching experience in both public and private schools. He has worked as a principal and a special education teacher.

Assisting Ihms at the ceremony were school board members Diana Woodhead and Pastor Andy White.

Ihms will teach courses designed around individual needs and abilities, and work one-on-one with students to achieve results.

The school is a member of Association of Christian Schools International.
