As part of the Edison Road widening project, the city will close the Rio Drive entrance to Acacia Crossings for about three weeks.

The road will be closed from May 5-25 to reconstruct the intersection, the city said. Rio Drive lies west of John Wayne Parkway and east of Roosevelt Ave.

Edison Road will remain open, but traffic will be shifted onto the newly paved lanes during construction. Crews will be milling and removing old pavement and repaving the westbound lanes of Edison Road (on the north side of the street) requiring the Rio Drive closure.

Motorists will be able to access Edison Road from both Roosevelt and Ancon avenues during the closure. They also can travel north through the subdivision to reach State Route 238. According to Mike Riggs, the city’s director of public services, message boards will be placed at three locations the week of April 26 to provide advance notice of the temporary closure.

The Rio Drive closure is part of a larger project to widen Edison Road to provide better access to the coming Estrella Gin Business Park, a commercial development that broke ground last October. The 300,000-square-foot project will offer leased and build-to-suit office space ranging from 1,500-100,000+ square feet; flex/manufacturing/retail spaces from 2,500-150,000 square feet; and warehouse/distribution facilities from 10,000-80,000 square feet.
