A school bus was involved in a wreck with a GMC minivan and a Nissan truck around noon Friday at North John Wayne Parkway and Edison Road injuring five adults and one child, according to the Maricopa Fire Department.

The lone child on the Maricopa Unified School District bus, which was on its way to afternoon daycare at Maricopa Elementary School, was not injured. Maricopa Fire Department spokesman Jon Sheaffer said the 7-year-old boy was checked by crews at the scene.

“Fortunately he was seat belted,” said Sheaffer, adding that school buses are built to be very sturdy.

Sheaffer said four adults were transported to Valley hospitals. One adult was treated at the scene.

Of the victims taken to Valley hospitals, one was the bus driver and another was a school aide riding the bus.
