Small retail store to open by car wash

It doesn’t take long for little kids to outgrow their clothes.

“Sometimes they outgrow them in just one season,” said Jinan Alsammarie, who plans to open the Bargain Depot Saturday. It is on North John Wayne Parkway in the same business center as the Maricopa Auto Spa.

Alsammarie said she will sell new clothes for children and adults, shoes, toys, school supplies and costume jewelry at prices that are somewhere between a dollar store and Walmart.

“I’ve always liked retail and by buying bulk have been able to buy things really cheap and pass on savings to everybody else,” she said. “I like it when people can get a bargain. I have no idea how I do it. The deals find me.”

She will sell the popular brand of Garanimals children’s clothes, newborn to 5, for $2.50 an item.

At 300 square feet, the store is small but packed with items.

On Sundays, Alsammarie said she will take some of her inventory outdoors and sell it in front of the car wash, which is closed on Sundays.

Alsammarie said the store will be closed Easter, open again on Monday and then hold a grand opening on April 15.

There will be a bounce house, a popcorn machine, and all adult clothes and costume jewelry will be sold for $1 each.

Alsammarie said most of her inventory comes from a retail store she owned in Mesa from 2007 to 2008, but closed when the economy got bad. Along with that, she gets inventory from online clearance sales.

“As soon as something gets depleted it will be replaced,” she said. “I will have new items every week.”
