Sequoia Pathway Academy’s junior high girls’ softball team took second place in the Canyon Athletic Association Division 2 state tournament Saturday.

Maricopa hosted the CAA championships at Copper Sky and Pacana Park.

The Pumas, seeded sixth, pulled off two upsets to reach the final. The girls defeated third-seeded Eagle College Prep, 9-8, in the quarterfinal. They then took down No. 2 seed Heritage Academy-Laveen, 11-7, in the semifinal.

The steam ran out in the championship game, where SPA fell to top-ranked Academy del Sol, 12-1.

In Division 3, Legacy Traditional-Maricopa was seeded fourth. They played a tough game against ALA-Ironwood, the fifth seed, but lost 12-10.
