Maricopa Special Events Coordinator Niesha Whitman

Maricopa Special Events Coordinator Niesha Whitman came into InMaricopa’s studio to talk about upcoming community events.

The big event for the spring will be the 12th annual Salsa Festival. Thousands of patrons come from around the Valley of the Sun to participate in the festival each year, and this year should be the biggest event yet.

“[The Salsa Festival] is shaping up quite well,” Whitman said. “We are really working on trying to bring new and different things to this program.”

According to Whitman, new features for the 12th annual Salsa Festival include a visit from the Arizona Rattlers arena football and Zumba lessons from the stage.

Preceding the Salsa Festival this year will be the second annual Copa Color Fun Run and multiple Second Saturday Markets. Each event is meant to bring the community together and provide participants with unique experiences.

“This year we are looking toward making all of our events bigger and better and building upon what we have for the previous year,” Whitman said.
