The storm system that swept through Maricopa over the weekend appears to be lingering in the area for the next few days, and potential rain could affect Maricopa High School Homecoming festivities.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a 10 to 40 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms through Thursday night. The storms are more likely to hit harder as the week progresses, but the possibility will be there each afternoon and evening until they blow out on Friday.

Monday is expected to be mostly cloudy with a high of 87 degrees. There is a 10 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms after 11 a.m., and the chances are expected to stay steady throughout the night as well. The wind is expected to stay mild near 9 mph, but brief, heavy gusts could accompany potential thunderstorms.

Tuesday is expected to be cloudy with a high of 81 degrees. The chances of rain and thunderstorms increase to 30 percent throughout the afternoon and evening. Winds are expected to stay mild near 8 mph, and the overnight low is expected to drop to 61 degrees.

Wednesday is expected to be the peak of the weekly storm system. The chances of rain jump to 40 percent throughout the afternoon. By the evening, the chances will drop to 20 percent, but daily rain and thunderstorms could affect MHS’s “Ram Fest 2015.”

The high for Wednesday is projected to only reach 78 degrees. The wind should remain calm, and the overnight low should dip below 60 degrees for the first time since spring.

By Thursday, the majority of the storms are expected to blow out. There will still be a 10 percent chance of rain and thunderstorms throughout the afternoon, but the skies are expected to be mostly clear by the evening. The projected high is 82 degrees, and the overnight low is expected to be 61 degrees.

The weekend is shaping up to be sunny and in the mid 80s, but more information will be available as the work week comes to a close.
