Stylish one-stop beauty shop opens in Maricopa

While many businesses are cutting employee hours, slashing budgets and scraping to get by, Maricopa businesswoman Karen Benedek is taking her business down a road less traveled – expansion.

“I have been looking to grow my business for the past couple of years and the right opportunity happened to present itself,” she said.

Benedek, owner of K’Bella Salon and Day Spa, has helped hundreds of clients to look their best over the past 11 years.

“I don’t tell people I can make them look 20 years younger, but rather inform them how I can improve the quality of their skin and reduce imperfections,” Benedek said. “With healthy skin it just glows and radiates and those imperfections are harder to see.”

Benedek, a Peru native, originally opened K’Bella inside of the local Hair Focus salon nearly three years ago, after years of working in the beauty industry.

Expansion occurred in December when she purchased the Guys and Gals salon at 20800 N. John Wayne Parkway # 116.

Bennedek will renovate the building, giving it what she calls a Tuscan theme, and brand the store as K’Bella Salon and Day Spa.

“I want the place to look very upscale and appealing to the eye,” she said.

In addition to aesthetic improvements, Benedek will introduce a new business model that combines the services of a hair salon with those of a medical salon.

“We will offer Botox, permanent makeup, laser hair removal, non-surgical face-lifts, manicures, pedicures, hair coloring, massage and more,” she said. “This is going to be a one stop beauty shop.”

Benedek developed many of the skills she will deploy in the business in Chimbote, Peru, where she took two years of classes to become certified in skin treatment, massage and other techniques used by the most popular medical spas in the world.

She continued her training after moving to the United States.

“How they do things in Peru is a little different than in the states,” Benedek said. “When I came to America, I had to go back to school because my Peru licenses were not recognized.”

Benedek’s love for making things beautiful comes from her mother.

“My mother was always pampering her skin to make sure it looked as beautiful as possible; it was something she taught me how to do and something I always wished I could do for others while I was growing up,” she said.

The expanded K’Bella Salon is open for business, but the remodel will not be complete for several more weeks.

Benedek said she is not done growing her business and hopes to build on her success in Maricopa.

“I am looking at opening another store in Scottsdale,” she said. “I want to make K’Bella a nationwide brand.”
