A mystery overnight in The Villages has been solved.

About 2:15 a.m., a car barreled through two front yards on West Snow Drive before slamming the back of a Hyundai Elantra sitting in the driveway and forcing it into a GMC SUV next to it, according to a Facebook post by the resident of the home.

The driver fled the scene.

The Facebook post said police were looking for a red/maroon or white vehicle with damage to the front end and driver’s side front.

Sometime after 9 a.m. Monday, however, the resident updated the post:

“UPDATE!!!! The suspect did come forward!!!! I want to commend him, instead of smear him! I hope you will all join me in doing so!!!

“*** Young man – I respect you so much more for doing what is right and coming forward! Many kids, teens, young adults and EVEN aged adults don’t always have the scruples and decency to do what is right! It took courage to do it and I commend you for that! There will be a price tag, but those come with experiences and learning. Accidents happen! Good for you! We appreciate you and your act of honesty! ***”
