Glenn Jones Auto Sales will close its Maricopa location at 20215 N. John Wayne Parkway at the end of this month.

Co-owner Eric Jones said Jerry Wilde, who owns the land that Jones’ company leases, has recently put the property up for sale. The property is southeast of the John Wayne Parkway and Edison Road intersection.

Jones said Wilde offered to sell the land to him, but Wilde wants to sell the entire 5 acres. The auto sales business only uses 1 acre, so Jones said he declined the offer.

He said Wilde offered to extend the lease, which ends in April, another six months, but Jones said he was not interested in a short-term arrangement.

“At the current business climate, I have a place for all my employees (at other locations),” Jones said, adding if he waits to close until the end of April, that might not be the case.

Wilde said he has three “groups” interested in purchasing the land but will not disclose their names.

Nathan Hicks, manager of Glenn Jones Auto Sales, said the company is looking for another location to re-open in Maricopa.

“We do not want to leave, we’re profitable,” Hicks said. “We like being in Maricopa. This is just something out of our control.”

Glenn Jones Auto Sales has been doing business in Maricopa for three years, he said. Other Jones Auto Centers are in Casa Grande, Buckeye, Wickenburg and Surprise.
