Pinal County Superintendent of Schools Orlenda F. Roberts has two more candidates to chose from to fill the MUSD board seat vacated by Lori Glenn who resigned last month.

Maricopa residents Torri Anderson and Rebecca Molus have both filed applications for the position.

Anderson is the wife of former Maricopa Mayor Kelly Anderson and currently serves on the board of directors for Against Abuse Inc., a non-profit organization that provides shelter and services for victims of domestic violence.

“I feel this is the perfect opportunity to get involved in our school system,” said Anderson, who moved to Maricopa with her family when she was 10 years old. Prior to becoming a board member for Against Abuse she worked as a teacher for both the MUSD and Arizona State University.

“I have always had a love for this school district,” she said.

Like Anderson, Molus is an active community volunteer, having served on the city’s planning and zoning board and on the fire district board.

“I love to volunteer and help my community and feel this is another way I can do so,” she said.
In addition to her volunteer experience Molus said she feels her 20-plus years of work in the accounting industry would be a valuable asset to the board.

The two women join current incumbent Tim White and Jannifer McGhee in contention for the open seat.

“It is refreshing we have so many people in the community interested in this position,” Molus said.

Pinal County Superintendent of Schools Orlenda Roberts began accepting applications for the open slot on the board on Nov. 9 and will continue to accept them until Dec. 3. Once all the applications are turned in, she will review them, conduct interviews, perform background checks and select a candidate.

She said she hopes to pick someone by year’s end to fill the vacancy. “I hope we are able to sit the new board member at the first meeting in January, at the same time the two newly-elected members take their seats,” Roberts said.

The successful candidate will fulfill the remaining two years of Glenn’s term.
