Police have released the name of a 67-year-old man whose body was found Tuesday afternoon west of the Old Stage Stop Marketplace on John Wayne Parkway.

Authorities said the body of Donald Julian was found in an open field area not far from a fenced compound where vehicles are parked. A worker at a nearby business found Julian, and police were called around 2 p.m.

Detective Colt Homan of the Maricopa Police Department said Julian’s family lived in the Gila River Indian Community. Police did not give out Julian’s name until the family had been notified.

Homan said police did have previous contacts with Julian in the area his body was found, but he could not give details on what those contacts entailed.

Police said Julian appeared to be homeless.

A May 3 receipt from a local business was found on Julian in addition to items that were listed on the receipt. Homan could not give out what those items were or where the receipt was from.

The business he received the receipt was the last place police knew he had been prior to his death, Homan said.

The medical examiner will investigate the time and cause of death, police said.

Maricopa Police Department spokesman Ricky Alvarado said Tuesday police do not suspect foul play was involved.

Alvarado also said the area in which he was found was known to be a place where people would go to drink after purchasing alcohol from the nearby Express Stop gas station.
