PROFILE: Senior volleyball players

Maricopa girls' volleyball players Kourtney Brown and Taylor Holz, both seniors, hope to lead the Rams to the state championship this year. Get to know them both:

KOURTNEY BROWN, SENIOR SETTER

When did your parents first get you involved in sports? Age 9.

What was the first sport you played? Soccer.

When did you start playing volleyball? Seventh grade.

What are your plans after you graduate? Trying to play volleyball on some level in college.

What is your dream career? Canine trainer.

What is your No. 1 goal for this volleyball season? To make it to the state championship.

What is the best part about being a senior captain on the team? To motivate my teammates.

With what three people or fictional characters would you most like to have dinner with? Misty May-Treanor, Keri Walsh and Coach Jefferson.

Why should the community come out and support the girls’ volleyball team this year? A bigger crowd will help push us to new heights.

Favorites

Team: Cardinals.

Favorite athlete: Breezy Tutweiler (played volleyball at Maricopa High School, now playing D-II).

School subject: Math.

Moment as MHS volleyball player: The improvement us girls have made over the past four years.

 

TAYLOR HOLZ, OUTSIDE HITTER, MIDDLE HITTER

When did your parents first get you involved in sports? 14.

What was the first sport you played? Volleyball.

What are your plans after you graduate? Trying to play volleyball in college, hopefully at Arizona Christian University.

What is your dream career? To be a doctor.

What is your No. 1 goal for this volleyball season? To make it to the state championship.

What is the best part about being a senior captain on the team? Being able to impart my experience and wisdom is an honor.

With what three people or fictional characters would you most like to have dinner with? Misty May-Treanor, James Patterson and former Bears running back Kahlil Bell.

Why should the community come out and support the girls’ volleyball team this year? We are very talented and close knit. It will be entertaining for fans.
