Maricopa residents should expect to see rain and temperatures in the high 50s each day this week before the sun breaks through near the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service, there is at least a 30 percent chance of rain each day this week. Temperatures are expected to gradually drop as the week progresses, and wind gusts could reach up to 25 mph by mid week as well.
Overnight lows are not expected to drop into freezing temperatures, but commuters should still be aware of sitting water and driving hazards on the wet roads.
Monday’s forecast call for consistent showers throughout the day with a high near 61 degrees. According to the NWS, there is a 70 percent chance the rain will continue through the night as well. The overnight low should drop to 45 degrees, and the wind should gust near 10 mph.
There is a 40 percent chance the rain will continue Tuesday afternoon, but the odds jump to 70 percent for rain overnight. The high is expected to reach 63 degrees, but rain and wind gusts up to 10 mph should make the air feel significantly cooler. The overnight low is projected to be 46 degrees.
Wednesday’s forecast calls for heavy winds to accompany a 60 percent chance of rain. Wind gusts are expected to reach 25 mph throughout the day, but calm to 10 mph overnight. There is a 50 percent chance the rain will continue through the night. The high is projected to be 59 degrees and the low is expected to be 42 degrees.
Thursday should see similar weather with wind gusts reaching 25 mph. The chance of rain drops to 40 percent throughout the day and 30 percent overnight. The projected high is 58 degrees and the expected low is 40 degrees.
The storm system should start moving out of the area on Friday, but there is still a 50 percent chance of rain through the afternoon. The odds drop to 30 percent for rain overnight, and wind gusts should calm to 10 mph for the weekend. The projected high is 55 degrees and the overnight low should drop to 37 degrees.
The sun is expected to break through on Saturday, but more information will be available as the weekend approaches.
The storm system could bring nearly two inches of rain to the area. Flash floods are not expected, but residents should be aware of areas where water flows and collects on roadways.
