What’s happening this week in Maricopa

Meetings, culture and a wild man are all part of the activities in Maricopa for the first week of June.

MONDAY
The Age-Friendly Maricopa Advisory Committee
meets at 5 p.m. at Maricopa City Hall, 39700 W. Civic Center Plaza. They will receive a presentation from Kazi Haque, City of Maricopa zoning administrator, on an analysis of the 2016 General Plan Update and 2040 Vision Strategic Plan.

The Maricopa Historical Society meets from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at Maricopa Public Library, 41600 W. Smith-Enke Road. They will discuss various projects to highlight the past and recent history of the City of Maricopa. All are welcome.

The Transportation Advisory Committee meets at 6 p.m. at Maricopa City Hall, 39700 W. Civic Center Plaza. The committee will hear a presentation by Dan Marum, consultant for the Area Transportation Plan, on travel demand modeling, intelligent transportation systems, complete streets element, transit and trails elements.

TUESDAY
Coffee with Friends Maricopa Library
is from 1:30 to 3 p.m. at Maricopa Public Library, 41600 W. Smith-Enke Road. Come join the Friends of the Maricopa Public Library for refreshments, conversation, and get acquainted with the Library.
 
Maricopa City Council meets at 7 p.m. at Maricopa City Hall, 39700 W. Civic Center Plaza. A short agenda includes a presentation on the status of the Maricopa Center for Entrepreneurship, a resolution supporting a TIGER VII grant for the overpass and a presentation from Supervisor Anthony Smith. There will be a work session before the meeting at 6 p.m.

WEDNESDAY
An Artist Reception
at Maricopa Center for Entrepreneurship starts at 6 p.m. and features a “Very Large Paintings” collection of Gary Zaimont. MCE is at 20800 N. John Wayne Pkwy., Ste. 108.

FRIDAY
Movies in the Park
starts at 7 p.m. at Copper Sky Regional Park, 44345 W. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and features “Big Hero 6” outside on the grassy area just behind the water slide. Concessions will be available starting at 6:30 so bring your blankets, chairs and your own food if you would like and enjoy a night under the stars with your families. If weather is bad they will move the movie inside the gymnasium.

An Alzheimer's & Caregivers Mini Conference is 12:30-5 p.m. at Maricopa Public Library, 41600 W. Smith Enke Road. The free mini conference is for anyone interested in learning about the basics of Alzheimer's; responding to difficult behaviors and legal/financial Planning for Alzheimer's.
