What’s happening this week in Maricopa

This is the week to get public safety tips from local first responders, learn about local service groups and even get in some Zumba.

MONDAY
Maricopa’s Youth Internship Committee
meets at 5 p.m. at Maricopa City Hall, Cotton Conference Room, 39700 W. Civic Center Plaza. The Committee will discuss a plan on how to roll out the youth internship program, which could include a presentation to the Mayor and City Council.

Friends of the Maricopa Public Library meet at 5:30 p.m. at Maricopa Public Library, 41600 W. Smith-Enke Road. Some of the projects are programs to encourage reading, reading to children, fundraisers, book club, scholarships, and book sales. New members are always welcome.

Maricopa Planning & Zoning Commission meets at 6 p.m. at Maricopa City Hall, 39700 W. Civic Center Plaza. The Commission will hear a summary analysis of the 2016 General Plan Update and 2014 Vision Strategic Plan.

TUESDAY
Coffee with Friends Maricopa Library
is at 1:30 p.m. at Maricopa Public Library, 41600 W. Smith-Enke Road. Join the Friends for refreshments, conversation, and get acquainted with the Library.

Maricopa Unified School District Governing Board meets at 6:30 p.m. in the MUSD District Office Administration Building, 44150 W. Maricopa-Casa Grande Hwy. The board breaks from its usually Wednesday schedule to meet Tuesday. New member Rhonda Melvin will be sworn in at 6 p.m. The agenda includes a base salary increase for certified employees, a two-year contract for the superintendent and the end of charter school sponsorship.
 
THURSDAY
Maricopa Chamber Breakfast
is at 7:15 a.m. at Harrah's Ak-Chin Casino Ballroom, 15406 N. Maricopa Road. Get "Public Safety Tips" from an informative public safety presentation by the Maricopa and Ak-Chin Police and Fire Departments.

SATURDAY
Zumbathon with DJ Alex
is at 6 p.m. at Butterfield Elementary School Multipurpose Room, 43800 W. Honeycutt Road. Sponsored by Our Lady of Grace Youth Ministry, the Zumba party features three instructors, Lorena Ortega, Claudia Ceja and Josie.
