Words cannot adequately express the deep thanks and appreciation for the city of Maricopa’s residents during my family’s recent loss of our husband and father. To all who have made a meal, brought a gift, deposited money, or said a prayer, I can’t thank you enough. There are so many names that I will never know and be able to thank properly, but please know that your kindness has not gone unnoticed.
Paul was a hardworking, honest man who loved his family, community, and friends. It was his suggestion that we build our home and family in Maricopa, having grown up in a small town in Iowa. While pursuing our goal of making Maricopa a community where we could raise our kids, he coached football for Parks and Rec, helped get a new Cub Scout Pack off the ground, and slung pizzas for many PTO nights and local school and sports events. Though the circumstances surrounding his death have become public speculation, I am at peace with the memory of my husband who was a very good man, husband, father, and ultimately, a good friend.
My children and I have a lot of healing to do and a long road to walk. Please continue to keep our family in your prayers. Once again, thank you all so very, very much. I am sure that Paul is proud of how his community is taking care of one of its own.
Editor’s note: Stephannie Spencer is widow of Paul Spencer who was fatally shot earlier this month (see related story).
