While Maricopa Historical Society canceled or postponed much of its spring events as a precaution against COVID-19, it has quietly continued some programs, such as the rehabilitation of the California Zephyr Silver Horizon railcar. That includes removing damaged, 70-year-old windows in the car that sits along Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway. The windows are temporarily replaced with plastic covering ahead of the project to replace the panes by vintage train experts. A donation made before the coronavirus outbreak is paying for much of the work.
