Coming off a successful first season, Maricopa Super Elite football will be back for its second season this fall. The season will run from Oct. 30-Dec. 11, with Thanksgiving week off.

Registration for the co-ed league is now open at maricopasuperelite.com with a cost of $110 for the first child and $85 for each additional child through Sept. 30. Beginning Oct. 1, the fees increase by $10. Each player will receive two jerseys and a flag belt with their registration.

Games will be played on Saturdays from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. with five players on the field at a time. Practices will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays, with times determined by the individual coaches. The non-contact, competitive league is part of NFL Flag, which is sponsored by the National Football League.

All practices and games are at Copper Sky.

League cofounder Jourdyn Wigg said the league is looking to expand this fall based on the success of the first season, which will conclude Sept. 30.

“We had 65 kids total for our summer season, which we felt was a great response for our first year,” Wigg said. “We had three teams in the 4-6 age group and five teams in our 7-9 age group, and we hope to add a 10-12 age group in the coming season. We are setting our goal at 100 kids for the fall season, now that everyone knows who we are, and they have all gained that experience. This is our passion – to bring this to the kids of Maricopa.”

All registered players will be sent an invitation to an Oct. 15 “Show Your Skills” workout at Copper Sky. Coaches and league officials will evaluate the players at that time. Teams will be selected, and the players notified that day. All children who want to play will be assigned to a team – there are no cuts.

The league will offer in-person registration at the Show Your Skills Day, but anyone registering that day must also participate in the event so they can be evaluated by the coaches.

The league is looking for coaches, and those interested can sign up on the website.
