A truck fire on State Route 238 sparked a brush fire early this morning, prompting a joint response from local and state fire crews.

The fire began at 9:22 a.m. before 91st Avenue along SR 238, about 10 miles west of the city line between Maricopa and Mobile. The authorities say the flames quickly spread from the burning vehicle to nearby brush, igniting a wildfire that required multiple agencies to contain.

State troopers, who also responded to the scene, said it was “a trash truck on fire.” The emergency scene is about 1 mile from the Butterfield Station Landfill. No injuries were reported, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

The cause of the initial truck fire remains under investigation. We reported on another garbage truck fire yesterday in Sorrento.

The authorities were also monitoring a separate brush fire closer to city limits, which is believed to have started on private property.
