1 dead after crash on Honeycutt, 1 charged on manslaughter

One person is confirmed dead and another charged in connection with vehicular manslaughter following a car crash on Honeycutt Road on Sunday evening.

According to a police statement, two vehicles were speeding at approximately 8:30 p.m. on Honeycutt and Gunsmoke roads when they lost control and crashed. This led to a collision with a third vehicle.  

One of the speeding drivers, a 25-year-old man, was ejected from his vehicle during the crash and confirmed dead on the scene, said Maricopa Police Department spokesperson Monica Williams. 

The other speeding driver, a 45-year-old man identified as Deedrik Manning, was taken to a nearby hospital for minor injuries and showed signs of impairment, according to the statement. The third driver had no visible injuries.

Pinal County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Manning with vehicular manslaughter.

The identity of the deceased man was not released.
