If we had a nickel for every time Maricopa Police Department arrested an elderly woman for throwing pottery at a man in the last year, we’d have two nickels. It isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it happened twice, right?
MPD arrested 82-year-old Province resident Nancy Jean Slama Wednesday afternoon after her husband told dispatchers she hit him with a giant flowerpot and he had a headache, according to a probable cause statement obtained by InMaricopa.
Officers responded to Slama’s Geyser Drive home where Slama’s husband told officers the couple were sitting on their couch when Slama ordered him to turn off the television.
When he did not turn off the TV, Slama reportedly grabbed the nearby flowerpot and the two struggled over the object for some time until Slama struck him in the left side of the head with the houseplant. The husband fell to the ground, and she hit him twice more in the right side of his face, said police.
Officers noted the man had injuries to his face, head and knee. They reported seeing the broken white and blue ceramic flowerpot.
Slama “made conflicting statements” but “ultimately stated that the victim got up from the couch, grabbed her arms, and [Slama] threw the flowerpot at him,” the report stated.
Maricopa police arrested Slama on two domestic violence charges. She faces a year in jail.
