Feb. 14, A+ Charter Schools secured an $11.3 million bond through BlackRock, a global investment company. As a brand-new start-up charter school, securing funding for land and facilities can be a challenge for schools without other existing campuses. A+ Charter Schools is honored to be the first of its kind to receive a bond for a start-up charter school from BlackRock to purchase the land and build the facilities for its first campus.

A+ Charter Schools is focused on project-based learning for students in grades 7-12. Just like a project takes many team members and collaboration to finalize a high, quality project, so did the work put in to bring this first of its kind bond to fruition.

Damon Norris, operations director for A+ Charter Schools, stated, “Working with so many great entities to bring about the first bond awarded to a start-up charter school for A+ Charter Schools is an honor. This will allow us to build a facility to support the mission and model of the school, while filling a need within the community of Maricopa, Arizona.”

BlackRock purchased the bond through a private offering from RBC Capital, while the school was represented by Warren Charter Law. With this bond, the school’s developer American Charter Development is working with local construction company Capital R Construction to build the school. Norris went on to say, “It was truly an effort by everyone involved to ensure this bond came to fruition. We can’t thank each group enough for their support and belief in our team to bring about a high, quality school to the students and families of Maricopa.”

A+ Charter Schools will use the funds from this bond to build its inaugural campus at 41735 W. Alan Stephens Parkway, west of Banner Health. Phase one has already begun and will be ready for the Fall 2020 school year. In its first phase, the school will bring over 20 employment positions to the community, as well as additional positions as the school expands in future years as the school contributes to Mayor Price’s City of Dreams vision.

A+ Charter Schools is currently enrolling for the 2020-21 school year, beginning with students in grades 7-10. The school will add grades 11-12 in subsequent years.
