This morning’s fiery sunrise was matched with a blaze on the ground in Maricopa. 

A two-story home in Alterra caught on fire this morning. According to neighbors, everyone got out of the house safely.  

The home’s second story and garage suffered extensive damage. 

The fire appears to have been extinguished, but as of 6 a.m., three fire engines remain at the scene.  

The city’s public safety department told InMaricopa it was working to provide a comment about the fire.

    I’m no arson expert, but from the photos it looks like a fire started in the garage and burned through the second floor. :-\ My bedroom is directly over the garage, and I have morbidly considered more than once that I sleep in the location where I am statistically most likely to die in a house fire… glad everyone got out safely.
