Armed robber pistol-whips 2 in Stanfield heist, makes off with only $20

An armed robbery suspect made off with only $20 after pistol-whipping two laundromat employees in Stanfield yesterday.

The robbery took place at around 1 p.m. at the Stanfield Laundromat, 36936 State Route 84, a laundromat employee who asked not to be identified for fear of her safety confirmed this morning.

There were no laundry customers inside the business at the time, but two employees were attacked, she said.

“It was just a quick in-and-out,” she told InMaricopa of the suspect who was carrying a handgun and was seen running south on Stanfield Road after the petty robbery. “It was just very quick. We have video footage.”

She said the employees attacked in the robbery were “OK.”

“We only had like $20 on hand,” she said.

It’s possible the business was targeted because, on its sign, it advertises check cashing services.

The suspect was wearing a dark bandana over his face during the robbery, she said. Laundromat security photos released by the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office today showed he was wearing a dark camouflage shirt, skinny jeans and tanned work boots.

The employee said there have been no such robberies at the business before.

“We’ve never had any trouble in the past,” she said. “People just come in, do their laundry and leave.”

The robbery suspect is described as Hispanic, around 20 years old, 5-foot-7 and 150 pounds, with dark hair and possibly a dark beard, said PCSO spokesperson Lauren Reimer.
