One local business owner stopped to smell the roses. And some baked goods and candles, too.

After years of working in mortgages, Jami Sanchez decided to pursue a livelihood in an arena she truly enjoys — home décor and flowers.

Sanchez recently opened Sol Flowers in the heart of old Maricopa. It’s nestled inside the Blue Barn on North Maricopa Road, just down the hall from her husband’s tattoo shop.

Jami and Nick Sanchez, Maricopa residents since 2015, said they saw the commercial space become available and “jumped on it” before landing on the right niche for the business.

The idea of an interior decorating operation shifted to a flower shop, with homemade baked goods, candles, and décor. And voilà, Sol Flowers was born.

Sol Flowers opened in July and has seen success so far. Jami Sanchez said she has already played florist for two funerals and she’s preparing for a couple of upcoming nuptials.

For the Sanchez family, the shop is a team effort. Jami and Nick Sanchez are mainstays at the flower-tattoo shop combo, as well as their two daughters, 5-year-old Harlow and 7-year-old Sophia Sanchez.

“Were not a company, we’re a family,” Jami Sanchez said.
