A commercial real-estate developer has filed paperwork with the city to bring Carl’s Jr. back to Maricopa.

SimonCRE, a Scottsdale developer, submitted an application for development and requested a preliminary site-plan application meeting for a Carl’s Jr. restaurant at 20015 N. John Wayne Pkwy., on about three-quarters of an acre at the southeastern corner of John Wayne Parkway and Hathaway Avenue.

It would include a drive-through lane.

The undeveloped site lies south of the Maricopa Animal Hospital and north of Iconic Tire and Rili B’s Taco Shop in Maricopa Towne Plaza. SimonCRE is proposing a restaurant of approximately 2,855 square feet, with access from John Wayne Parkway.

SimonCRE requested the meeting to confirm the zoning and land uses permitted on the site, and to discuss building design, site and civil design, and submittal requirements. The developer also wants to review timelines, fees and other elements of the project.

Carl’s Jr. would re-join the lineup of national fast-food chains on John Wayne Parkway which includes Taco Bell, Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Burger King and Sonic.

A Carl’s Jr. under different owners formerly operated in the building of the current Wendy’s at 21000 N. John Wayne Pkwy. before closing in December 2018.
