Pinal County’s Special Investigation into the officer involved shooting released new details Friday night, including body camera footage of the shooting.
The shooting happened Thursday just before 3 p.m. when Maricopa police spotted Keith Prock, 38, at the Circle K at Bowlin Road and John Wayne Parkway. He had several outstanding warrants, one of which was from a 2024 fentanyl arrest, according to public records.
As shown in the body camera footage, Prock ran from police, pulled a handgun and fired several shots at a pursuing officer. A second officer continued the chase and shot several times at Prock as he ran from the gas station.
According to Pinal County, a detective in an unmarked car also fired at Prock from the passenger seat.
Prock was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators say he has an extensive violent criminal history and was gang affiliated.
The injured Maricopa Police officer remains in stable condition at a Valley hospital. The officer is known to InMaricopa but is not being named.
One Maricopa Police officer and two detectives are on paid administrative leave while the investigation is ongoing. This, according to Pinal County, is “standard procedure for the Maricopa Police Department in incidents of this nature and is not an indication of wrongdoing.”
“This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers our officers face every day to keep our community safe,” said Maricopa Police Chief Mark Goodman. “Our department is like a family, so when one of us is hurt, we all feel it. Thankfully, our officer survived, and their prognosis is positive. However, they sustained serious injuries that will take time to heal.
We are grateful for the support we have received from Maricopa residents, as well as our fellow law enforcement departments across Pinal County and the Valley. We remain committed to serving our community and ensuring the safety of Maricopa.”
