A second hospital isn’t coming as soon as we thought.

An agreement between S3 BioTech and the city to build a medical campus near Copper Sky has been canceled, according to a public records request.

An Oct. 2 letter from City Manager Rick Horst to S3 BioTech members Ed Johnson and Britton Lee, and Copper Sky Hotel and Residential Group member Michael Patterson, said the project was in default and all agreements were terminated.

“You are to vacate the property immediately to include the removal of fencing and all equipment located on the site. Failure to do so may result in further action of the city,” the letter said.

Horst told InMaricopa S3 BioTech took too long to start building.

Fencing and equipment still remain at the site.

Hopes for the second hospital are not completely gone as S3 BioTech may submit another preapplication in the future, Horst said.

Johnson, Lee and Patterson did not respond to comment.
