Maricopa Police Department arrested an accused carjacker Monday afternoon. Cops say they found her trying to hide in a bush.

Police arrested 31-year-old Alicia Gonzalez near Honeycutt Road and West Garvey Avenue after she tried to flee to the railroad tracks after a failed carjacking, according to a probable-cause statement obtained by InMaricopa.

Cops responded to Chevron on North John Wayne Parkway just before 5 p.m. on a report of a robbery and attempted carjacking.

The caller told officers Gonzalez asked him for a ride while he was getting gas. He said he refused before Gonzalez pushed past him into the driver’s seat of his car and tried to start the engine.

He told officers he tried to pull Gonzalez out of the car as she kicked him repeatedly. He said bystanders helped him subdue Gonzalez, who then fled on foot.

A witness flagged officers down and said Gonzalez ran down Old Honeycutt Road.

Soon after, officers found Gonzalez hiding in the bushes near Old Honeycutt Road. She refused to surrender herself, cops said.

Gonzalez allegedly got on her stomach and started crawling through the brush toward the Union Pacific Railroad tracks. Officers eventually caught and handcuffed her.

Gonzalez was booked into the Pinal County jail on one felony count of robbery and a misdemeanor count of assault.

She faces two years in prison.
