Maricopa City Council gave the green light to the proposed development of Villas at Stonegate community during a May 2 meeting.

The 293-unit townhouse subdivision was included on the council’s consent agenda, which was unanimously approved without further discussion. The community will be located on 16.1 acres at the southeastern corner of Alan Stephens Parkway and Stonegate Road.

The subdivision is owned and designed by the Mesa-based real estate development company BFH Group

Construction on the multi-family development is not expected to begin for at least eight months, according to a report from BFH.

The subdivision was initially approved during a Jan. 9 meeting with the Planning and Zoning Commission, which typically ensures submissions follow city code and makes recommendations. The primary concern raised at the time was by a Glennwilde resident over lane design and consideration for bicycle traffic during school hours. This was addressed and clarified during the same P&Z meeting.

In its project narrative, BFH highlighted the significance of constructing Villas at Stonegate as Maricopa continues to swell.

“There is a significant demand in the area for affordable housing in the City of Maricopa and inadequate supply,” the document read. “It is (our) intent and desire … to work hand in hand with the City as well as the neighbors to create a viable development that benefits not only the existing neighborhood, but also the future residents.”
