A Hidden Valley couple is being sought by local police after fleeing a traffic stop and later having drugs and stolen firearms discovered in their home.
On Aug. 7, Maricopa Police Department officers were conducting a stakeout on Whirly Bird Road targeting Arlie J. Perryman, 43, and Susana M. Kelly, 55, in connection with a narcotics investigation.
Just after noon, officers observed Perryman arrive at his home in a silver Toyota Corolla. He carried a tan duffel bag into a shed before leaving the house with Kelly and an unidentified “very heavy set male,” according to police documents obtained by InMaricopa.
Police attempted to stop the trio, but Perryman reportedly sped away, last seen on Papago Road. Perryman has a federal warrant, a history of fleeing and resisting arrest, and is a prohibited possessor of firearms.
Officers later served a search warrant at the couple’s home. Inside the tan duffel bag, they found 148 grams of meth, 5 grams of cocaine, two firearms (one stolen), ammunition and drug paraphernalia including a scale.
Investigators also discovered additional drugs believed to belong to Kelly, including 48 grams of meth, 22 grams of fentanyl powder, 64 LSD tabs, two fentanyl pills and multiple pipes and scales.
Charges filed against Perryman include unlawful flight, possession and sale of dangerous drugs, narcotics for sale, theft of a firearm and other weapons offenses. Kelly faces charges for dangerous drugs for sale, narcotics for sale, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
“They ended up getting away from us, so we’re just trying to see if we can get any intel on their whereabouts from the community,” Det. Tyler Pappas told InMaricopa this morning.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Maricopa Police at 520-568-3673.
A life of crime
In 2005, a high-speed chase through Yellowstone National Park led to a manhunt and ended with the arrest of Perryman and another man, according to media reports.
“Officers pursued and immediately found a duffel bag with a large amount of marijuana that the suspects had discarded when they jumped from the car,” Fremont County Sheriff Jim Cashell said, according to the Bozeman Daily Chronicle. “There was evidence at the scene indicating the subjects were armed.”
Perryman was eventually located by the National Park Service canine unit in the area where he had fled from the vehicle, 12 hours after the chase began. He was charged with grand theft, felony eluding an officer and felony possession of drugs, with a bond set at $200,000.
InMaricopa could not confirm additional details of the case, as it had been transferred and the files were sealed.
The following year, Perryman faced multiple charges in Pinal County Superior Court, including human smuggling, weapons misconduct, drug paraphernalia and unlawful flight, according to court records. In 2014, he was convicted of vehicle theft, while an unlawful flight charge was dismissed.
In 2018, Kelly faced charges in Pinal County Superior Court for fraud and possession of narcotic drugs for sale, as well as possession of forgery instruments.
The Casa Grande case reportedly involved multiple people submitting counterfeit prescriptions at pharmacies throughout the city, according to media reports. Kelly pleaded guilty to fraud, and in a prosecutor’s bargain, six additional felony charges of forgery and selling narcotics were dismissed, according to court records.
