The city’s crime rate ticked down in 2025, but the work inside the police department got heavier.
Maricopa Police Department reported 4,178 total crimes last year, down 2% from 4,256 in 2024. Measured per 1,000 residents, crimes fell from 60.8 to 59.7.
At the same time, arrests increased 5%, reports climbed and criminal investigations grew sharply. Chief Mark Goodman told City Council in April the numbers showed a department with more capacity to pursue difficult cases, not just close to them.
“Our commitment is not just to close cases,” Goodman said. “It is to make arrests and to give justice to victims.”
The data shows a mixed public safety picture: property crimes rose 11%, crimes against people rose 22% and crimes against society fell 13%. Arrests for crimes against people rose 36%, and arrests tied to property crimes rose 17%.
Goodman said the department’s shift is intentional. With more training, technology and investigative resources, detectives are taking on more complex cases and pushing more of them toward arrests and indictments.

With a fraction of the 22,000 apartments given the thumbs up by this reckless administration built and occupied this rise in crimes against people/property is a tip of the iceberg. And the 90% burglary and 80% robbery stats are abhorrent and very concerning.Goodman came in with a community policing policy. He started out that way until he was most likely quietly told to get out on the streets and basically raise revenue while bringing down the five categories in biggest crime drop numbers. And what are the group B crimes???This administration wanted irresponsible growth which brings people that we don’t want in our communities and streets and forces us to raise the police budget. It’s nothing more than a hamster wheel issue that gets bigger and never stops. All of the city council past and present AND the mayor are responsible for these troubling numbers.Funny, the Pinal County stupervisors are suing the elected County Attorney over a power move through McClures leadership when the attorney showed these numbers and predicted exactly what was going to happen in our city. All these politicians could care less about the taxpayer. It’s money and power that fuels their poor decisions. How better off are we with all the apartments in this city?Just look at these numbers and the police budget proposed for the next fiscal year.If you think we are better off you are part of the problem.Vote with this in mind..city,county and as importantly the school board. This is OUR city.
THERE IS NOT 22 THOUSAND APARTMENTS HERE JD WOULD YOU PLEASE STOP WITH THAT MADE UP NUMBER
I like it how they fudge the numbers to make it look like “crime is down”.
Do people feel safer in Maricopa? Do they?
So it looks like serious crime is way up and lesser crimes are down. The lesser crimes look like they just switched from focusing enforcement on these as you only have things like DUI’s reported when cops are actively policing the streets and using check points. Isn’t it fun how they play with numbers to get the headline they want while the details tell a different story?
Oh boy “crimes against society” is down, whoop dee doo.
Meanwhile it’s up by pretty insane amounts in every other category which does not bode well at all in a town this small.
These numbers suck.
