A proposed dinosaur-themed educational and recreational park near the southern end of State Route 347 will be the subject of a public hearing next month before the Pinal County Planning and Zoning Commission.

The Sky Village Dino Park will be the subject of a hearing slated for 9 a.m. July 17 at the Pinal County Emergency Operations Center in Florence. Commissioners will consider a request for a special use permit to develop the 10-acre project.

According to paperwork submitted to the county, the new park is designed to focus on the dinosaurs of the Mesozoic Era and would be located near the intersection of Green Road and State Route 84. The Mesozoic Era lasted a few million years and covers just about every dino you or your kid is familiar with.

The applicant, Gilbert-based Iplan Consulting, submitted the request on behalf of landowners Nadeesha Nambikuara Wellala and Nirosha Senerath. The property is currently zoned as general rural.

The dino park developer will ask to use a special use permit to allow for an outdoor recreational facility.

Members of the public may attend the hearing and provide input, either in person or through written statements submitted to the planning staff. If 20% or more of neighboring property owners file written protests, the rezoning will require a supermajority vote by the Pinal County Board of Supervisors.
