Maricopa’s seniors shredded some big numbers this year.
The sixth annual Shred-A-Thon more than doubled the number of documents obliterated and donations collected from last year, according to data from the Senior Advisory Committee.
Then-committee member Ron Smith said the higher turnout could be attributed to holding the event closer to Tax Day to “meet the requests from the community.” Previously, SAC held the event in February.
Overall, committee volunteers and the Pinal County Attorney’s Office shredded a record 12,500 pounds of documents, more than twice last year’s 5,600 pounds, which was the worst turnout since 2019.
In addition to offering the free shredding service, volunteers also saw the number of food donations to F.O.R. Maricopa double — increasing from 722 pounds last year to 1,500.
