Paving on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 10 will close an East Valley section of the freeway again this weekend, and Arizona Department of Transportation officials advise motorists to be ready for detours and expect delays.

Eastbound I-10 will be closed from U.S. 60 and Loop 202 Santan/South Mountain Freeway from 10 p.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Monday as crews continue paving from Baseline to Ray roads. This includes the new eastbound lane south of Baseline Road.

Paving of these lanes began last weekend. Crews will pave an additional two-mile stretch this weekend. Each section of the new travel lane is opening as crews complete work. The entire section south of Baseline Road is scheduled to open in October.

During the closure, the following ramps will be closed:

  • Westbound U.S. 60 onto eastbound I-10.
  • HOV connecting I-10 and U.S. 60 in both directions.
  • Eastbound I-10 at northbound 40th Street and Broadway, Baseline, Elliot, Warner and Ray roads.
  • Eastbound U.S. 60 on and off at Mill Avenue.

ADOT will close the eastbound lanes of I-10between US 60 and the Loop 202 San Tan Freeway from 10 p.m. Friday until 4 a.m. Monday. The closure will allow for paving work on new lanes between Baseline and Ray roads. [ADOT graphic]
Drivers on southbound State Route 143 heading to eastbound I-10 will be routed through the closure detour onto U.S. 60.

To avoid the construction area, ADOT recommends drivers use eastbound Loop 202/Red Mountain Freeway or eastbound U.S. 60 to southbound Loop 101/Price Freeway, to westbound Santan Freeway to access eastbound I-10 beyond the closure.

West Valley drivers can bypass the closure by using Loop 202/South Mountain Freeway at I-10 and 59th Avenue and rejoining I-10 south of Chandler Boulevard.
