Fatal crash victim identified: ‘He was a really cool kid’

Maricopa police today identified the motorcyclist killed in a crash on Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway Thursday morning.

Devin Fiedler, 22, of Casa Grande was an avid motorcyclist.

The crash occurred when a semi-truck was making a left-hand turn off Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway onto Hartman Road, while Fiedler was passing on the left, eyewitnesses told police.

Fiedler died at the scene from “multiple blunt force trauma” injuries according to Pinal County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police do not believe alcohol or drugs played a factor in the collision.

“He was a really cool kid and he really loved his street bikes,” said friend and dirt biker Gunner Deatherage. “He was quiet around other people if he didn’t know you, but after you talk with [him], he was a really great dude.”

“I feel like the community should remember him as his bikes,” Deatherage added. “He rode a Suzuki GSX-R.”

Deatherage will race in the 2024 Laughlin Desert Classic in Laughlin, Nev., Oct. 19 in honor of Fiedler.
