Getting rip-roaringly wasted on medical-grade, 99% isopropyl alcohol isn’t technically a crime, but it probably ought to be.
Andres Alonso Ortega, 43, had been drinking the topical antiseptics at his parents’ Rancho El Dorado home when an argument with his father ensued over his affinity for imbibing denatured alcohols, according to a Maricopa Police Department report.
MPD officers responded Saturday to the Sage Brush Trail home after Ortega allegedly stopped drinking the rubbing alcohol and started throwing it on the floors of the home. Rubbing alcohol is one of the most flammable liquids available to consumers.
Officers arrived and quickly handcuffed Ortega, according to the probable cause statement. That’s when they discovered that he had previously been trespassed from his parents’ house, and that he had two active warrants out of Maricopa and Ak-Chin courts.
Ortega’s rap sheet is long — he’s been arrested 21 times before, including the time he was accused of assaulting a cop at Domino’s Pizza in 2018. His prior convictions range from aggravated domestic violence to aggravated assault against a prison guard. He has also pleaded guilty to resisting arrest and fighting, among other things.
This time, he was booked into the Pinal County jail on his two warrants and new disorderly conduct charges, for which he faces six months behind bars.
