A man was injured by a gunshot wound tonight inside a home near Santa Rosa Parkway and Raynon Street in the Senita neighborhood, police said.
Officers responded to a report of a shooting around 7 p.m. and found a homeowner with a single gunshot wound to the leg, authorities said. The victim was treated at the scene and transported to a hospital. The extent of the injuries was not immediately released, but InMaricopa reporters watched as the victim left his home, motioning to neighbors that he was okay.
Investigators believe the shooting was accidental and occurred while the firearm was being cleaned, according to police. No foul play is suspected.
The victim appeared to be holding his thigh as he was loaded into an ambulance.
Friends of the victim said he is licensed to carry a firearm and believe it was simply an accident.
“I’m glad it’s not worse than this,” one friend said. “I watch his dogs. I hope he’s okay.”

This is the exact kind of idiot that should not be allowed to own a gun. His license should be stripped and his guns confiscated. He has just proven he is to stupid to be a responsible firearms owner.
This is why you take out the magazine and ensure that no bullet is loaded before cleaning your gun. It’s a good thing that he didn’t die, though. Now he’ll remember to fully unload it before cleaning next time.
