A partial road closure at Honeycutt and Porter roads continued Thursday morning while Global Water Resources had a crew working on repairs in the intersection, the water utility said.

“There was a manhole in the street that had been damaged, so we had to bring in a crew to do a repair,” said Global Water Resources Vice President and General Manager Jon Corwin.

Road closures began Wednesday evening and continued through Thursday morning, with crews drilling into the road and laying concrete. One lane was open in each direction for traffic flow. Left turns are restricted.

Crews working on the site said driving on the damaged lid could lead to vehicle damage or severely interfere with vehicle traffic.

“What happened is the lid’s worn out. The old lid was worn out and there’s a possibility of it actually flipping over,” said Rick Garlick, a crew member from JPCI Services, which is completing the work.

“If somebody drives in the hole and because it was known, if something does happen, liability is a whole bad thing,” said crewmember Joe Nuciforo. “I’ve been doing this 36 years so we’ve got to shut it down.”

The road is expected to remain closed through Thursday afternoon, with an estimated re-opening at 7 p.m., said Corwin.
