Glover’s justice of peace gavel comes early

Pinal County Board of Supervisors yesterday appointed Patricia Glover of Maricopa to fill the Western Pinal Justice of the Peace vacancy.

The seat has been vacant since the resignation of Lyle Riggs in February.

The supervisors said Riggs’ term was due to expire at the end of the year, and because Glover “ran unopposed in July’s primary election and therefore her election in November is a formality, the board chose to appoint her three months early, which is within their authority.”

Today, she began the move into her new justice office at 19955 N. Wilson Ave. in Maricopa.

Glover will serve through 2028.

Glover was sworn in yesterday by clerk of the board Natasha Kennedy. Glover’s husband, Christian, and presiding Justice of the Peace Shaun Babeu were also present at the swearing in. Christian said he was proud of his wife’s achievement.

“I would like to get in there and hopefully make a difference,” said Justice Glover in an interview earlier this year with InMaricopa.

Glover, a Republican, has been in the legal field for 19 years, starting as a paralegal. She’s the founding owner of her own business, Glover Court Solutions & Estate Planning in Maricopa. She said it is the only such licensed practice in Maricopa.

Her business assists people who can’t afford an attorney. It will remain in operation with her husband at the helm. Glover must recuse herself from her business while serving the court,  required under the law.

She lives with her family in The Villages at Rancho El Dorado.

Glover said her business’s goal has been to help give people better access to the legal system. She said she would like to carry her legal experience over to the JP court system.

She said her goal as justice of the peace is to give people who can’t afford legal representation better access to the court system.

Glover said she is taking a pay cut as justice of the peace.

The justice of the peace position pays about $107,000 a year, county records show.

Glover said she has technology and business skills that would complement the justice of the peace position.
