A Maricopa art teacher got a sweet surprise for his class Thursday.
Heritage Academy teacher Carlos Jimenez and his class were awarded free coffee from Dunkin’ Donuts for a whole year.
As part of the surprise, Dunkin’ also gifted Jiminez with custom donuts and an in-classroom party in Maricopa — Munchkins for the kids, coffee for the teachers.
In a press release, Dunkin’ of Phoenix said it awarded Jiminez “in honor of his remarkable dedication to his students and his inspiring journey in the national America’s Favorite Teacher competition earlier this year.”
America’s Favorite Teacher is a national competition that celebrates educators who inspire, lead and make a lasting impact on their students. Earlier this year, Jimenez advanced to the quarterfinals of the competition, placing second in his group and standing out among thousands of educators nationwide.
When asked how he would have used the $25,000 prize if he won, Jiminez said he would put it directly toward supporting his students – ensuring no one would go without food, classroom supplies or warm jackets during the winter.
“For seven years, Mr. Jimenez has inspired and fueled the minds and spirits of young students. Now, Dunkin’ is proud to return the favor with a well-deserved thank you and the fuel to keep him running as he continues to shape the next generation,” the statement read.
