With a new Home Depot comes more new stores and restaurants along Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

The national hardware retailer submitted an updated site plan to the Maricopa Development Services Department late last month, according to documents obtained in a public records request.

An updated version of the home improvement store’s site plan shows the project spans nearly 13 acres, which includes the addition of several proposed shops and restaurants just west of the main attraction along Maricopa-Casa Grande Highway.

“The additional retail is significant and will (measure) approximately 23,000 square feet,” Maricopa City Manager Rick Horst said in an email to the city council July 26.

The addition includes five locations for sit-down restaurants, drive-thru restaurants and a 7,00- square-foot retail space.

Other changes to the site plan included revisions requested during a June Planning and Zoning Commission meeting. The revisions focused on landscaping, drainage and parking.

The revised site plan is amid the development review permit stage, meaning the request needs to be reviewed for code compliance before it is approved, and construction begins.

“If schedule holds … we anticipate construction beginning in December or early January,” Horst said in the email.
